Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) – MyLOFT

1. What is MyLOFT?

MyLOFT (My Library on Fingertips) is an app and web platform that allows you to access all your library’s electronic resources (eBooks, e-journals, databases) anytime and anywhere, on any device.

2. How do I create a MyLOFT account?

Check if your library has already created an account for you. If they have you should have received an email from MyLOFT.

If not, register using your institutional email through the sign-up page provided by the library.

You may receive a verification link in your email to activate your account.

3. How do I log in to MyLOFT?

Go to the MyLOFT login page or download the MyLOFT mobile app. Click on the library website under eresources link. Alternatively, you can use the direct link https://app.myloft.xyz/

Enter your institutional email and the password you created for your account.

4. What can I access through MyLOFT?

You can access all the e-resources that your library subscribes to — e-books, scholarly journals, research databases, and more — in one place.

5. Can I use MyLOFT off-campus?

Yes! MyLOFT is designed for both on-campus and remote access just log in and access the resources wherever you are.

6. How do I install the MyLOFT browser extension?

The browser extension helps you access full-text articles even when you’re searching on Google or other websites.

Download the extension from the MyLOFT dashboard.

Follow the instructions to add it to your browser (Chrome or Microsoft edge .).

7. Can I use MyLOFT on my phone?

Yes! Download the MyLOFT app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Log in with your account to access resources on the go.

8. How do I save articles or e-books for offline reading?

Use the ‘Save’ or ‘Bookmark’ feature in MyLOFT.

Saved content will be available in your ‘Library’ tab for offline reading.

9. What if I forget my MyLOFT password?

Click ‘Forgot Password?’ on the login page and follow the instructions to reset it. If you still have trouble, contact your library support.

10. Who do I contact if I have problems with MyLOFT?

Reach out to the library on our email library@riarauniversity.ac.ke or give us a call on  0703 038 328. Provide details of the problem (error messages, screenshots, etc.) for faster assistance.

11. Is MyLOFT free?

Yes — the library provides access to MyLOFT and the e-resources for free. There are no extra charges to you as a user.

12. Why do I need the MyLOFT Browser Extension?

The browser extension helps:

  • Seamlessly access subscription content across publisher websites.
  • Capture and save articles directly to your MyLOFT library.
  • Automatically log in via institutional accesss

13. Why is a VPN required to access content via Mobile Application?

A VPN is needed only if your institution restricts access to subscribed resources to campus IP addresses. It helps simulate on-campus access when off-campus

14. How to organize articles in a collection?

Mobile App:

  • Go to the collection > Tap “Edit” or “Organize.”
  • Drag to reorder or assign tags.

Browser:
Open the collection > Click “Organize” or “Edit Collection” > Drag and drop or group by tags/topics.

16. What do I do if I don’t receive MyLOFT welcome email?

  • Check Spam or Promotions Folder
  • Search Your Inbox:
  • Check with the library staff to confirm your email address was correctly uploaded to the MyLOFT system.
  • Go to the library MyLOFT page and click on sign up and fill in the required details to create your account, the library will activate your account.
